The Locust Grove Recreation Association youth baseball and softball program depends on member parents and other adults to work with the board to produce the spring and fall seasons. We are always looking for mature, responsible, and enthusiastic adults that are comfortable working as part of a coaching staff to organize a fun and safe sporting experience for members of our baseball and softball programs.
A successful member of a coaching staff will have extensive experience working with youths, knowledge of basic sports strategies, and good communication skills. A top-class group of volunteer team organizers ensures that all players and their parents enjoy an engaging and uplifting sporting experience. The typical roles that our volunteers fill include:
Head Coach
Youth sports coaches design and teach basic sports strategies and skills to an assigned group of children 3-16 years of age. The head coach’s role is primarily as a coach who presides over all team activities and to teach valuable sporting skills such as teamwork, fair play, and sportsmanship. The head coach will communicate and coordinate with association board members and abide by the roles and responsibilities as outlined in the coach’s handbook.
Assistant Coach
An assistant coach supports the head coach to ensure the team of players and their parents have a successful season. Assistant coaches coordinate with the head coach and team mom to coordinate practice times, manage games, and organize team events. The assistant coach will also communicate and coordinate with association board members in the head coach’s absence and abide by the roles and responsibilities as outlined in the coach’s handbook.
Team Mom
The team mom role is operational in nature and ensures the team has everything they need, when they need it, and where they need it. The primary duties of the team mom include managing the team checking account, communicating weekly schedules to the parents, and organizing team related activities. The team mom is often the liaison between the parents and the coaching staff so that coaches can focus their attention on their duties. The team mom will communicate and coordinate with association board members and abide by the roles and responsibilities as outlined in the team mom handbook.
